Really good smart LED light strips
I have tried a couple of different LED light strips so far and the Govee Alexa LED Strip Lights are by far my favourite. The app is really easy to use and well featured and the adhesion process has been the best I behave tried so far.
– Really sticky they easily stuck to the ceiling and we are yet to see any signs of them falling off
– The LEDs are very able to go very bright and are able to light up a small room on their own
– The app is easy to use and has lots of useful features that I was not expecting
– A mode to simply fade through the colours slowly would be nice
– In some settings, you can see the steps in changing brightness or colour with different LEDs turning on or off
We got these to go around the ceiling of our son’s bedroom, they looked like they would be good quality and the app control meant that we could remotely turn them on or off, which is great as it means after he goes to bed we do not need to go in and risk waking him up.
The packaging for the lights was good and the amount of components you get is pretty substantial, I was glad the extra clips are included which can be screwed in if needed. But luckily so far these have not been needed that the lights are suspended using just the sticky back adhesive on the reverse of the strip. Installing them was easy, simply unspool the light from the plastic spool they come on and remove the backing, then apply directly to the surface. I did have a bit of trouble going around the corners, but I just went onto the wall for a few centimetres before moving back to the ceiling so there were no tight turns of kinks in the strip.
As you can see from the images the LEDs are very bright, the photo is on one of the brighter settings whereas the video is on the second dimmest setting. One of the nice touches I wasn’t expecting was that the speed of the transitions can be changed with the remote, so if one is a bit fast or slow for your liking you can adjust it. I would have liked a simple fade between each of the colours but unfortunately that setting does not exist, but one of the nice things about these being smart is that maybe this can be added in a software update later.
Setting up the light with the app was easy and most of it was automatic just needed to tell the app to connect and leave the light on. Once using the app I found a couple of features I really liked, firstly if you are using IOS there is the option to add a Notification Center Today view widget to control the light, this is only turning it on or off but is a lot more convenient than opening the app every time you want to do that. The other thing I was not expecting was the sleep timer, this allows you to set a time frame and a starting brightness and the light will slowly dim from that brightness to off, it would be nice if this could do colours and patterns too, but at the moment it is just a solid white.
