Cute crab with some good and bad design
I have really mixed feelings on the HengGL Baby Bath Toys, 2 in 1 Crab Kids Wind up Toddler Toy for Bathtime, it is very cute but has a pretty flawed design causing it to be almost useless outside of water.
– Really cute design
– When he walks successfully it will make you smile
– Does not really work on carpet
– Needs to be pulled straight and at the right angle or he will fall over
So my first impressions of this toy were actually really good, the packaging is nice when I got the crab out of the box I was instantly struck by his cuteness. The build quality is a really mixed bag with the top portion of the toy being made of large solid parts but the mechanism for the legs feels really quite weak and it is really hard for him to move as a result.
I was at first expecting him to start walking after winding him up and placing him on a flat desk but this was not the case even holding him in the air he does not walk from being wound up. I’m not entirely sure how the winding mechanism works in this toy but he does sometimes do a little walk after being wound up and giving him a push on a flat solid surface, I have included a video of him walking on my desk after being wound up and gently encouraged. He will also swim in water from being wound up.
Trying to use him as a pull along toy did not end well, our house is largely carpeted and due to the design of his legs if you go too fast or pull at the wrong angle he will just get a leg stuck in the carpet and fall over. It is possible to pull him along the carpet but I could just barely manage it and our son could not consistently get him to walk and got frustrated quite quickly. Where the toy really shines is in water, winding him up does get him to consistently swim in the water and he will quite quickly crawl sideways along the top of the water.
This is a very difficult toy to review and we have very mixed opinions as there are so many aspects of the toy that let us down but he is so cute and when you successfully get him to walk or swim it is so joyous.
